In October, Rosebank welcomed a new team of Tourism Ambassadors to enhance visitor experience, accessibility, and public safety across the precinct. This initiative is a collaboration between the Rosebank Management Districts and the Johannesburg Tourism Company as part of their ongoing Tourism Ambassador programme.

Ambassador Roles and Responsibilities
Operating in rotating shifts from Monday to Sunday, 09:00 to 17:00, the ambassadors work alongside precinct security and stakeholders to ensure a safe, welcoming, and enjoyable environment for visitors and locals. Their responsibilities include:

  • Sharing tourism information and local insights with visitors

  • Monitoring and reporting on site conditions in collaboration with security teams

  • Maintaining clean surroundings across the precinct

  • Conducting ongoing research and providing updates on new developments in Rosebank

Basil Ngakane, RMD Operations Manager, says:
“We are excited to collaborate with the Johannesburg Tourism Programme on this initiative and believe that visitors and locals will equally benefit. This additional workforce and visibility will help us greatly in addressing some of the crime trends we have observed in the precinct—especially during the holiday season.”

How to Identify the Ambassadors
Ambassadors are easily recognisable in branded uniforms, name tags, and safety vests, making them approachable for assistance at key precinct hotspots, including Gautrain Station, The Zone, Rosebank Mall, Keyes Art Mile, and Bath Avenue.

Compensation
The Johannesburg Tourism Company provides ambassadors with a monthly stipend of R4,500. While tips are welcome, ambassadors do not solicit money from visitors.

This programme reflects Rosebank’s ongoing commitment to accessibility, safety, and world-class visitor experiences. The presence of these ambassadors ensures that visitors can navigate, explore, and enjoy Rosebank with ease, while reinforcing the precinct as a safe, vibrant, and welcoming destination.
