This October, in celebration of Transport Month, the Rosebank Management Districts are organising and supporting a series of exciting events aimed at promoting walkability and safe mobility in the node/ Here’s what you can look forward to.
South Africa’s Future Neighbourhood: Design with No Walls & Slower Streets
Date: 10 October 2024

Location: ZEDMEN Johannesburg, 8 Parks Blvd, Rosebank
Join us for an enlightening discussion on urban design as part of Design Week South Africa. Explore how neighbourhoods can thrive without high walls and electric fences, while still maintaining safety and vibrancy. This event will tackle pressing questions about urban planning and how innovative designs can lead to mixed-use neighbourhoods that foster community and activity. RSVP here.

- A talk led by Carollyn Mitchell from Intaprop, who will share insights on creating safer streets.
- A guided walk showcasing real-world applications of pedestrian-friendly designs and safer intersections.
- Contributions from experts like Guy Briggs of dhk Architects, discussing his role in developing Oxford Parks, and Andile Skosana, who will delve into mobility challenges in the Rosebank precinct.


Rosebank Street Experiment Activation on Bath Avenue

Be part of an innovative street experiment aimed at reimagining Bath Avenue as a pedestrian-friendly space. This event will feature interactive discussions and creative demonstrations focused on enhancing public safety, vibrant public spaces, and pedestrian crossings.
What to expect:
- Engage in guerrilla-style activities where participants will creatively illustrate how enhancements could transform Bath Avenue into a safer, more accessible space.
- Temporary installations will include cones, chalk paint, and neon pedestrian markers, creating walkways and gathering spots.
- Share your ideas for future interventions, like universally accessible zebra crossings.

Day-time Critical Mass Johannesburg: The Zone to 44 Stanley

Location: The Zone @ Rosebank (Cradock Square parking)
Get ready to reclaim the streets for cyclists in a special daytime edition of Critical Mass Jozi. Since 2007, this movement has raised awareness of cycling as a sustainable and enjoyable mode of transport. This special ride, organised in partnership with the Active Mobility Forum, the Rosebank Management Districts, The Zone @ Rosebank and Xciter Sports will emphasise the urgent need for improved cycling infrastructure. Join us for a fun, safe, and engaging ride that highlights the importance of connected and cyclist-friendly neighbourhoods. RSVP here.
What to expect:
- Starting at Cradock Square (The Zone), we will safely cycle to 44 Stanley where participants can take a 45-minute break to explore the area.
- Support vehicles will accompany the ride, ensuring safety and assistance as needed.
- The route is suitable for all skill levels, but we recommend participants be 12 years or older.


#JacarandaInYourPocket The Rosebank Story Heritage Walk

Location: Meeting at the angel wings in the Radisson RED piazza. Parking available at Oxford Parks (Eastwood Road entrance)
Discover the rich history of Rosebank on a guided heritage walk that uncovers the area’s transformation from farm boundaries to a vibrant cultural hub. This event, in collaboration with the Johannesburg Heritage Foundation (JHF), will be led by expert guides including Karen Curry, Kgao Mashego, and Carollyn Mitchell. - Stroll through Rosebank while learning about its architectural gems, including Art Deco buildings and repurposed landmarks like The Firestation.

Rosebank Mall’s 5km Pink Run

#JacarandaInYourPocket Social Ride with Banditz Bicycle Club
Date: 27 October 2024
Time: 09:00 for coffee and pastries.
Location: Hyde Hotel Rosebank
Experience Joburg’s stunning jacaranda-lined streets on a free social ride with the Banditz Bicycle Club, in collaboration with Johannesburg In Your Pocket. This ride celebrates the beauty of our city and is open to all cycling enthusiasts. Book tickets here.
What to expect:
- Kick off your morning with coffee and pastries before setting off on a leisurely ride through the scenic streets of Joburg.
