The month of February was marked by continued operational activity across safety, urban management and stakeholder engagement in Rosebank. The Rosebank Management District team remained focused on maintaining the functionality, safety and overall quality of the precinct through targeted interventions, infrastructure monitoring and ongoing collaboration with City entities, businesses and community partners.
Urban Management
Infrastructure oversight remains a key component of the district’s urban management mandate. During the month, the RMD facilitated repairs to a longstanding pothole within the precinct through its contracted pothole patrol team after previous reports to the Johannesburg Roads Agency had not yielded resolution.
The team also responded to a caved steel grid at the corner of Biermann Avenue and Bath Avenue, addressing the issue to ensure the safe and uninterrupted flow of traffic at this busy intersection. In addition, upgrades to the children’s play area at the Rosebank Events Park have been completed by the City of Johannesburg Parks and Zoo. These improvements enhance the quality of the public environment and support Rosebank’s position as an accessible and family-friendly urban precinct.
Safety and Security
Safety visibility and coordinated response remain central to precinct operations. During February, two Tourism Ambassadors – Phumlani and Kelebogile who assisted a JC Security officer in apprehending a suspect involved in a theft incident on Cradock Avenue. Following a request for assistance from the manager of Mr Price, the ambassadors worked alongside the security officer to locate the suspect and recover the stolen goods. The incident highlights the importance of coordinated response between businesses, private security partners and precinct personnel.
Stakeholders should also note that the Joburg Tourism Ambassador Programme has been extended until June 2026. Tourism Ambassadors assist visitors with directions, provide information about the precinct and support way-finding, contributing to a welcoming and safe environment for both tourists and locals. They are easily identifiable through their official branded uniforms and visible presence across key areas of the precinct.

Community
Community participation continues to play an important role in maintaining the quality of the precinct. During the month, The Hyde Hotel team took to the streets for their second neighbourhood clean-up initiative, demonstrating active citizenry and shared responsibility for the public environment. Initiatives such as these strengthen community pride and reinforce the collective stewardship that supports the Rosebank precinct.
Ongoing projects in the precinct
Rosebank continues to experience sustained investment and development activity. Several construction and infrastructure projects remain underway across the precinct, reflecting continued confidence in the node. The RMD maintains ongoing engagement with developers, contractors and the City to monitor impacts on traffic flow, pedestrian movement and public space, ensuring that development activity is coordinated with the safe and efficient functioning of the precinct.
One such project currently underway is trenching related to the gas pipeline replacement programme by Egoli Gas. The RMD is in communication with the contractors to monitor progress and ensure adherence to approved safety, traffic management and reinstatement requirements. While this is not an RMD project and the District does not determine construction timelines, the team continues to engage with the relevant parties to minimise disruption and ensure compliance within the precinct.

Through ongoing coordination, daily presence and partnership with stakeholders, the RMD continues to support the safety, functionality and vibrancy of the Rosebank precinct. If your property falls within the operational boundary, contact the District Manager, Mikhaela Donaldson, and join the collective effort that keeps Rosebank thriving.
