Rosebank continues to lead the way in promoting active, people-focused movement. As one of Johannesburg’s most walkable precincts, it offers a growing network of pedestrian-friendly spaces, safe routes, and vibrant community activity.
In 2023, the Rosebank Districts launched #GoRosebank, an initiative supporting non-motorised transport and building on previous upgrades to the area’s walkways and infrastructure. Today, Rosebank is home to a number of running groups and fitness communities that make it easy to stay active—whether you’re training seriously or simply enjoying the social and health benefits of running.
#LetThePeopleRun is a vibrant road and trail running community that welcomes all fitness levels. Runners can choose from 4km, 6km, 8km, or 10km distances on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 17:25, meeting at Starbucks on the corner of Tyrwhitt and Cradock Avenues. From February, Wednesday evening runs are also held in Parkview. Follow @run_tell_that for regular updates and training tips.
Benchwarmers Runners Club offers a relaxed and sociable approach to staying fit. Hosted by the Benchwarmers sports bar on Jan Smuts Avenue, the group meets every Wednesday from 17:00 for a 17:30 start, covering a casual 5km route. It’s ideal for runners who enjoy a welcoming atmosphere, community energy, and a well-earned refreshment after the run.
Shelflife Running Club offers 5km and 10km sessions geared toward community-minded runners who enjoy a dynamic city run. While start points may vary, the club typically meets at the Shelflife store in Rosebank Mall on Wednesdays at 17:30 and Saturdays at 06:30. For the latest details on routes and meeting points, follow their Instagram page.
The Pack Running was founded to create a safe, empowering space for women runners, while also welcoming mixed groups during the week. The club meets at the Nike Store at The Zone @ Rosebank for mixed-group runs on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays at 17:30, and for a women-only run on Saturdays at 06:30. Follow @thepackrunning for updates on schedules, safety advice, and wellness tips.
Rosebank’s support for active mobility is about more than just infrastructure – it’s about community. These clubs are part of a growing movement toward healthy, connected living, and reflect the precinct’s ongoing commitment to safe and inclusive public spaces.
