The Urban Mobility Summit (UMS) is set to take place on 6-7 May in Rosebank, Johannesburg, bringing together leaders from across government, investment, planning, and innovation to address one of the most pressing challenges facing African cities: how to deliver climate-conscious, inclusive, and people-centred urban mobility systems that move beyond policy intent into practical, on-the-ground implementation
At its core, UMS exists to bridge the gap between urban mobility policy and delivery. Across African cities, the challenge is no longer a lack of ideas, but the complexity of execution – how to translate planning, investment, and innovation into systems that are accessible, integrated, and responsive to rapidly growing urban populations. The Summit provides a dedicated platform where these challenges are addressed collaboratively, and where practical pathways forward are shaped across sectors.
As a partner to this year’s Urban Mobility Summit, the Rosebank Management District’s involvement is both intentional and strategically aligned. The precinct reflects the very principles the Summit advances — inclusive mobility, transit-oriented development, and a mixed-use urban environment that places people at the centre of planning. Rosebank is not merely the backdrop to this conversation; it is a working example of the urban evolution the Summit is convened to accelerate.

This year’s theme, “From Policy to Streets: Delivering Climate-Conscious, Inclusive Mobility” sets the tone for two days of solutions-driven dialogue. The programme moves deliberately from strategic discourse to practical implementation, structured around five key themes that span the full spectrum of urban mobility: Climate-Smart Mobility, Inclusive Mobility Systems, Integrated Urban Planning, Innovation and Technology, and Investment and Infrastructure. These are not abstract ideas, but the levers shaping how African cities function, grow, and serve their communities.
Programme highlights include a curated precinct walkabout, led by the Rosebank Management District in collaboration with the Oxford Parks Management District. This live experience brings the principles of the UMS into practice – offering delegates the opportunity to step into the urban environment itself and engage directly with real-world, implementable examples of integrated and people-centred city-making within a functioning urban node.

The Summit is designed for leaders and changemakers ready to move from dialogue to delivery. The decisions being made now will define how African cities function, grow, and serve their people for decades to come. We extend an open invitation to all stakeholders, partners, and decision-makers to step into this conversation and be part of shaping what comes next.
